1901. Active; focal plane 67 m (220 ft); white flash every 5 s. 20 m (66 ft) hexagonal pyramidal skeletal tower with lantern and gallery. The upper part of the lighthouse is painted red, the lower part white. A photo shows the base of the lighthouse, but a cloud shadow obscures Google's satellite view. Site status unknown, but the lighthouse must be easy to see from nearby. ARLHS IDO-105; Admiralty K1438.1; NGA 24956.

outer island as "wawasan nusantara" http://id.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daftar_pulau_terluar_Indonesia

Pulau Enggano (Malakoni)Date unknown. Active; focal plane 60 m (197 ft); four white flashes every 20 s. 40 m (131 ft) square skeletal tower, painted white. No photo available, but Bing has an indistinct satellite view that probably shows the lighthouse. Enggano is a substantial island in the Indian Ocean, measuring roughly 30 km by 15 km (19 mi by 9 mi), about 100 km (60 mi) west of Krui. It has only a small population and is rarely visited. The lighthouse is apparently located on a bluff on the north coast of the island near the village of Belowa. Site status unknown. ARLHS IDO-197

The name of the island suggests some early contact with Portuguese traders (engano means mistake), but the earliest published account is that of Cornelis de Houtman, dating from June 5, 1596, but he was unable to land a boat.

In 1771, Charles Miller succeeded in landing and meeting the indigenous population.[5]

Enggano Island map

Italian explorer Elio Modigliani visited Enggano Island between April 25 and July 13, 1891. He detailed the apparently dominant role of women in Enggano culture in L'Isola delle Donne (The Island of Women), first published in 1894.[6] The Rijksmuseum has an important collection of Enggano artifacts and their publication by Pieter J.ter Keurs reproduces Modigliani's drawings.

The island may now serve as an isolated area for surfing and diving.

Enggano lies about 177 km (110 mi) south of Bengkulu city. It is about 35 km (22 mi) long east west and 16 km (10 mi) wide north south. Its average elevation is about 100 m (330 ft). Hills, rising to about 281 m (922 ft) cover most of the area. The island covers an area of 40,260 hectares, which is dominated by dense rainforest with its wild buffaloes. Mainly we can see the culture, or the life manners of traditional society and native's Enggano dances. A pioneer boat at Baai Island Harbour or hiring a small boat at Bintuhan seaport can reach the island. Visitors can see the culture, or the life manners of traditional society and native's Enggano dances. A pioneer bat at pulau Baai harbor or hiring a small boat at Bintuhan seaport can reach the island.

There are 5 clans Isukul spread over the entire island: The Kaharuba, Kaarubi, Kaitora, Kaahoao and the Kauno. A matrilineal society, descent is traced through the female line and daughters usually inherit farmlands. Half call them Christian, the other half call them Mosleem. But actually this society is one of the last truly animist strongholds in Indonesia. Engganese culture is sure now to disappear as a result of assimilation into an indiscriminate Indonesian culture.
