An area of 107,489 hectares of land and sea was declared by the Minister of Agriculture in 1982 and designated by a Forestry Ministrial Decree in 2002 as the Taman Nasional Laut Kepulauan Seribu (Thousand Islands Marine National Park). Public access is prohibited on two of the islands, Panjaliran Barat and Panjaliran Timur, where sea turtles are conserved.[8][9]

The Thousand Islands Marine National Park is located 45 km (28 mi) north of Jakarta. It is mostly located on the Kecamatan of Kepulauan Seribu Utara (Subdistrict of North Thousand Islands) which is the northern part of the Thousand Islands). The complex contains 342 reef platforms, with 110 formes an island larger than half an acre. There may be as many as 700 individual reefs in the complex.[10]

The dominant animals in the Park include 54 sea biota species which form part of the coral reef ecosystem, 144 species of fish, 2 species of giant clam, 6 species of sea grass, sea worms of various colours and 17 species of coastal bird.[9]

Most coastal areas of this Park are surrounded by mangrove forest, where monitor lizards, golden ring snakes and reticulated pythons can be found.[9]

Pramuka is an island in the Thousand Islands archipelago. The archipelago lies in the western part of the Java Sea and is located north of Indonesia's capital Jakarta. The island is the capital and the home to the administrative government of the Thousands Island regency.[3]

Ethnic groups on the island are Betawi, Bugis, Banten, Madura.[2]

Facilities on the island include a school, mosque, hospital, dock, and homestay for tourists.[4]

This island can be reached in two and half hours by motorboat from Muara Angke Jakarta, or faster by speedboat from Marina Ancol Jakarta. Boat rentals to other islands in the archipelago are also available.,[5][3]

There is a Hawksbill Turtle (Erethmochelys imbricata) conservation in this island. The island coast is planted with mangrove to protect it.[3]

YBFF-016  Mount Halimun Salak National Park, New WWFF
Salak Endah Natural Park
OC-021 Java Island
August 8 - 9, 2015 rescheduled to be August 21-23, 2015

Mount Halimun Salak National Park is a 400km2 conservation area in the Indonesian province of West Java on the island of Java. Established in 1992, the park comprises two mountains, Mount Salak and Mount Halimun with a 11-kilometer forest corridor.[2][3] It is located near the better known Mount Gede Pangrango National Park, but the National Park should be accessed from Sukabumi, 2 hours drive to the administration post and then 2 hours drive (30 kilometers) again to Cikaniki post gate. The park contains water catchment areas shielded from urban populations and agricultural areas to the north,[4] as well as several endangered animals and rare birds.[5]

Its mountain tops reach 1,929 metres and are often mist-shrouded, while its valleys are thought to hide much that remains to be discovered.[4]Mount Salak is a critical water catchment area for its very high rainfall.[6] The park is an amalgamation of two important ecosystems at Halimun and Mount Salak, which are connected by an 11-kilometer forest corridor.[7] The Kesepuhan traditional community is a group of around 5,300 people who live in the southern part of the park. Their main village is Ciptagelar.[8]

The lower zones hold secure populations of the endangered West Javan Gibbon (Hylobates moloch moloch) - a sub-species of the Silvery Gibbon. Mount Halimun is its most secure habitat, but its range is restricted to a thin ring around the park as the species is not found above 1,200 metres.[4]Javan Lutung (Trachypithecus auratus), and other endemic species are evident; about half its 145 known bird species are rarely seen elsewhere in Java.[4]. 3 animals are known to breed:[3] Silvery gibbon, Javan Hawk Eagle , Javan Leopard
